Guranda Klibadze (b.1973) studied scenography at the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Theatre and Cinema from 1992 to 1995. Between 1995 and 1999 she continued her studies at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, Faculty of Easel Drawing.
Klibadze is among the new generation of artists who have asserted themselves on the twenty first century Georgian art scene by demonstrating a totally new approach to genre motifs in figurative art. Symbolic and metaphorical interpretation of objects, the synthesis of the conceptual and the figurative and the perfection of artistic execution is what sets them apart from the mainstream.
Such interpretation of the world, feelings and shapes defines Klibadze’s original and emotive artistic vision. In fact, the emotional expressiveness of her works and the mood they convey touch the strings of our subconscious much more vigorously than we may at first think. Sophisticated techniques of monotopy, perfectly mastered by the artist, and her profound understanding of the model allow her to boldly attempt deformation of shapes and subject them to abstract relativity. Despite the extreme degree of generalization and abstraction, forms depicted by Klibadze are always recognizable and evolve into artistic images with a special emotive impulse and expressiveness. The contrast with the neutral white background intensifies the monumentality and significance of the expressive images, mostly marked by laconic colouring. The paintings intermittently render chaos and order. Inevitability – the law that governs human existence in the universe – is the central idea of Klibadze’s works.
